Hardwood flooring is beautiful, durable, and long-lasting – when maintained properly, that is! Part of keeping your wood floors healthy is refinishing them when necessary. Here at Floor Coverings International Cleveland South, we offer refinishing services to Akron homeowners to help them keep their floors in tip-top shape. Learn more about the process below!
Hardwood Floor Refinishing Process
The finish on your hardwood floor adds a glossy or matt appearance while protecting the wood from moisture and scratches. This finish must be reapplied approximately every 5-7 years, or when it’s been worn down. For undamaged floors that only have a worn down finish, we’ll perform a simple screening or buffing. During this process, we buff off any remaining finish to even out the floor before applying a fresh new finishing coat.
For floors that have dents or scratches, the refinishing process will include some degree of sanding. This allows us to sand into the wood to even out the surface, removing any blemishes and mars that the wood has incurred. After this, we apply a fresh new finish to make your floors look as good as new!
Benefits of Refinishing Your Hardwood
While there are many benefits to having your wood floors refinished, one of the most immediate benefits is aesthetic. A simple refinishing job will make an old, dull, or dented floor look as good as new! This is an affordable way to spruce up your home, and it is especially impactful for boosting resale value.
Of course, there are a number of practical reasons why we recommend refinishing your floors, too. Hardwood flooring can last a lifetime when it’s properly protected, and the finishing sealant that we apply to your wood will do just that. The finishing coat helps to prevent moisture damage and scratches in the wood. While it is not a solution that will make your floors waterproof or hard-as-rock, it will keep them safe from general wear and tear.
