Plush carpet is one of the most popular choices for residential use. Homeowners in the greater Stow, Cuyahoga Falls, Hudson and Akron areas choose this carpet style for the warmth and comfort it brings to their homes. Read on to learn more about the benefits and drawbacks of this flooring option.
What is Plush Carpeting?
Plush carpeting is a type of carpet style. To better understand these styles, we need to define pile. Carpet pile refers to the individual pieces of yarn, which make up the carpet’s surface. This yarn can either be continuously woven into the backing to create Berber loop pile, or it can be cut to a certain height to create a cut pile. Cut pile styles are distinguished by length and amount of twist applied to the individual pieces of yarn.
The plush style has a medium length pile and a medium amount of twist. Since the pieces of yarn are all cut to the same length, the carpet has a uniform surface. This provides exceptional softness and comfort compared to other style options. Plush carpet also comes in patterned style options.
Maintaining Plush Carpet
Due to its uniform surface, plush carpeting can show dirt and wear more easily than other options like Berber or frieze. Because of this, we do not recommend plush for high traffic areas. Instead, this carpet works well for bedrooms and other rooms with less use.
For proper carpet maintenance, we recommend vacuuming at least once a week or more often for areas that are frequently walked over. Vacuum lines will show in plush carpet, so if this is something that bothers you then Berber or frieze carpets are better selections. For additional maintenance, we recommend steam cleaning every 12-18 months. Also, always treat liquid spills as soon as possible by blotting and using the appropriate stain treatment.
