Stow HardwoodAbout Birch

Birch is a popular hardwood species due to its unique, varying color scheme. While some species look similar from plank to plank, birch varies, allowing for a floor that is truly unique to your home! The experts at Floor Coverings International Cleveland South love the creamy hues of the sapwood and the darker brown and red tones of the heartwood. These classic tones add a modern and elegant look to any home. Homeowners can choose to install boards just from the sapwood or the heartwood for a more uniform look, or from both parts of the tree to create a floor with color variation.

Durability

Birch hardwood will hold up well to everyday wear and tear but does vary depending on the type of birch you install. There are three different types of birch: paper, yellow, and sweet birch. Paper birch is the softest of the three and is best for rooms with lower volumes of foot traffic. Yellow is the most popular type of birch because it is durable without being too hard. Sweet birch is the hardest of the three and will hold up very well to abuse. Regardless of which type of birch you pick, dents and scratches can be fixed if you periodically sand and refinish the floors.
